Introduction to the Bike to Work initiative
The Bike to Work initiative started four years ago and since then the number of employees involved and the number of kilometres cycled has grown regularly. The aim was not only to promote a healthy lifestyle, but also to reduce the company’s ecological footprint. The main motivation for this initiative was the concern for employee health and the desire to create a friendly working environment where environmental values are promoted.
Rules and rewards for employees
Employees have the opportunity to earn financial rewards that can be used for sports equipment, clothing or relaxation if they use a bicycle for commuting to work. These rewards are awarded at the end of the year based on kilometres ridden. The competition is open to any employee regardless of previous cycling experience. In this way, we try to motivate as many people as possible and create a positive atmosphere in the company that promotes a healthy lifestyle.
Kilometres ridden and a great benefit
Over the past four years, our employees at ŠVEC GROUP have ridden over 227,821 kilometres, a distance of approximately five times around the Earth at the equator. This staggering figure is testament to the commitment and enthusiasm with which staff engage with the programme. The total amount paid out in the form of bonuses exceeds EUR 68,000, which the employees use to buy sporting goods, clothes or for relaxation activities. This not only rewards a responsible attitude, but also encourages a healthy and active lifestyle. The overall benefit is thus two-sided: employees gain health benefits and the company contributes to environmental protection by reducing CO2 emissions.
Owner’s example and team achievements
The owner of the company, Ľubomír Švec, is a role model for all employees. His regular and consistent involvement in the initiative has placed him first among individuals in the region in the national challenge www.dopracenabicykli.eu . Ľubomír constantly emphasises that commuting to work by bike brings new levels of energy and freshness, which is positively reflected in the work performance and overall employee satisfaction.
“I try to set an example for my co-workers and get involved in all the activities we have at work. I support a healthy lifestyle and I think it’s better to work when you come in the morning with a fresh head”, says Ľubomír Švec, owner of ŠVEC GROUP.
The ŠVEC GROUP team regularly ranks among the best in the region, inspiring other companies and individuals to do the same. Team successes strengthen internal relationships and foster team spirit. This collective commitment creates a healthy and friendly working environment where not only individual growth but also shared success is encouraged.
Benefits for employees and the company
The Bike to Work initiative brings many benefits not only to employees, but also to society as a whole. It is an opportunity for employees to improve their physical fitness, spend time being active and at the same time reduce the stress of traffic jams. In addition, commuting by bike is a great way to improve your mood and increase productivity during the working day. By doing so, the company promotes environmental values, contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and creates a favourable image for its brand.
